Presentation of Rare Earths Rare Earths are a family of 16 natural elements just like iron, oxygen or carbon. Their particular electronic structure confers similar chemical properties, making them difficult to separate, as well as physical properties which are the origin of their numerous applications in catalysis, luminescence, optics, magnetism, electronics... In spite of their name, Rare Earths are hardly rare. For example, the natural abundance of Lanthanids in earth's crust is the same than Copper.
